Clinically Speaking

I believe that therapy should be a safe space—a place where couples can grow closer, reflect deeply, and reconnect with what matters most. As your therapist, I take that responsibility seriously. I will be active in the process, offering guidance, insight, and tools to help you move forward with clarity and greater joy.

Each couple I meet is a new beginning. I never make assumptions. I listen with intention, observe with care, and tailor my work to your unique relationship. My hope is that, as we work together, therapy becomes not only a time to change—but also a time to enjoy.

I bring over 25 years of clinical experience and high ethical standards to every session. This work is my passion, and couples are my specialty.

Clinical Experience

My experience includes work with military families, new parents, multicultural couples, and individuals navigating life’s most complex transitions. I’ve offered therapy in both English and Spanish throughout the mainland U.S. and in Puerto Rico.

I’ve coordinated clinical research, taught graduate courses at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and presented on Gottman Method Couples Therapy and other mental health topics. I remain committed to evidence-based practices that help couples grow stronger and more secure.

My professional journey has included:

  • Working with active-duty military couples
  • Providing education to new parents about the emotional shifts that come with a baby
  • Conducting therapy and workshops for couples navigating cultural, emotional, and developmental challenges
  • Continual post-doctoral training in trauma, personality disorders, micro-expression analysis, and advanced Gottman Method therapy

Above all, I love empowering couples with tools to make their relationships last and deepen.

Speaking Personally

I am the fourth daughter of an immigrant Dominican couple, married for over 52 years. My childhood was a tale of two islands—traveling between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic—and that early movement shaped my identity as a culturally fluid person. I feel equally at home in both places.

I earned my first master’s degree in Chicago in the late ’90s before returning to Puerto Rico to complete a second master’s and eventually my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Then, I fell in love. In 2016, my husband and I relocated to Miami. After Hurricane Maria struck in 2017, we returned to Puerto Rico to support our extended family and community—and we’ve remained ever since.

So, why couples therapy?

Because I believe in love.

I believe in committed, respectful relationships—and in the transformative power of a good marriage. I also believe that parenting begins with partnership. As a former school psychologist, I saw firsthand how the quality of the parents’ relationship impacted the emotional lives of children. That realization lit a spark in me. I began studying family systems: Bowen, Minuchin, and then John Gottman. I haven’t looked back since.

Gottman’s research offered a roadmap that aligned with my values: evidence-based, practical, and full of hope. I’ve spent years integrating his work into my own and continue to train and grow in this method.

As a mother myself, I’ve now lived what I teach. The transition to parenthood is profound. It changes everything. I feel honored to walk with couples through this stage—teaching them not just how to co-parent, but how to stay connected as partners. The best gift you can give your child is a healthy marriage. I know this both professionally and personally.

I still love learning. I’ve always excelled in school, but what truly excites me is applying that knowledge to real relationships in real time. Helping couples feel hopeful, stronger, and more deeply understood? That’s the best work there is.
